Living Without Sky+
July 31st, 2007 byDon’t you just hate it when things break down? Our Sky+ box decided to die at the worst possible time. We have just been away for a week and all the programes we recorded have now gone. It’s not really too much of a big deal and in a way it frees up some time that would have been spent catching up on all these programes.
You just don’t realise how much you take these things for granted though. We had a spare Sky box we plugged in so we can still watch TV but its amazing to see how you miss the features of Sky+.
No more live pause, no more rewind, no more recording of programes and then being able to skip through the adverts (that’s a real time saver).
So I rang Sky to order a new box. After trying 4 times I was told they couldn’t place my order as their system wouldn’t allow it to go through as a self install even though they had sent me a letter offering this only a week before. I was told to try again in a few days.
Now I’m not the most patient person in the world and 24 hours without Sky+ was bad enough and I didn’t fancy waiting another week. So I hoped on over to Ebay and got a deal on a brand new Sky HD box with a 300GB hard drive for recording TV programes and Sky’s new Sky Anytime programming.
We don’t have a HD TV yet but I asked the seller if it would work on a normal TV and was told it would as it has a scart output. I don’t even have to pay the extra £10 to Sky for HD channels either as I couldn’t watch them anyway.
I figured this was the way to go as it will only be a matter of time before we upgrade our TV and it will save on the cost of a new box when the time comes. A Sky+ box was going to cost me £99 and this HD box was only £173.00 so it was worth the extra to be future proof.
If you fancy getting a Sky HD box without paying £299.00 to Sky then the seller has some more of these:
