I recently upgraded to an iPhone 3GS and one of the new features on it is the video camera. Playing around with it I decided to mount it to my Vespa GTS 300 to see how good the video was in comparison to the Action Cam I purchased a while ago.
Below are the results.
The results I don’t think are too bad. Unfortunately the windshield got in the way bit and the picture is a bit wavy in pieces but overall it’s quite good.
You can see the Aciton Cam video to compare here.

I’ve been tempted in the past to get some video glasses before but have always been put off by the screen format being so old hat on them 4:3. I’ve had widescreen TV’s and computer monitors for years so it seemed a step backwards. So when I saw the Vuzix iWear AV310 Widescreen Video Eyewear advertised just before Christmas I couldn’t resist the temptation to get them.

These are the first and to the best of my knowledge the only widescreen format video glasses available. Coupled with the fact that they would work with my iPhone 3G out of the box I was sold.
Sadly for me my ever cautious girlfriend refused to buy them for me insisting that they wouldn’t be any good, strain my eyes and that I would be complaining about them within 5 minutes and they’d be resigned to a drawer in their box for eternity. Luckily though my parents didn’t have the same reservations and agreed to get them for me for Christmas.
I’ll be honest and say I didn’t know what to expect and couldn’t really get my head around how they would work. I read that they were the equivalent to a 52″ screen viewed from 9 feet away but as these glasses are right in front of you I didn’t know if it would be difficult to focus on the picture.
Christmas day came and armed with my iPhone with a pre-installed movie on it I had it up and running in about 5 minutes. The iWear AV310 comes with many connectors including an iPhone/iPod connector that just plugs straight into the bottom of it.
I started the movie up and all I can say is wow! It really was like watching a 52 inch screen from 9 feet away. In fact your eyes focus to a point about 9 feet away even though the tiny screens are so close to your eyes and it felt totally natural. You can even get a sense of your surroundings as if you look slightly up or down you can see perfectly everything around you.
The picture and sound quality is quite good. Admittedly it is far from DVD or High Definition quality and I wouldn’t suggest getting one of these to replace your Plasma TV. The two lcd screens are 428 x 240 so blowing that up into such a large screen is going to have an effect on the quality but doesn’t diminish the overall experience.
After a while the iWear glasses were making the rounds around the room and even my ever cautious girlfriend conceded that they were good. Another useful feature on them is the independent +2 to -5 diopter focus adjustment on each screen so even my brother who tells me he is as blind as a bat without his glasses was able to use them and focus on the screen without his glasses.
As a portable unit they are great. I wanted these mainly for long flights and for watching movies lying on the beach but would imagine they’d be great for commuters too.
I got mine from Play.com but I’ve also seen them on Firebox too.

I got an Apple Bluetooth Mighty Mouse last Christmas and a few weeks ago I started having problems with the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel stopped working properly in that I could scroll down but not up.
Anyway, I eventually took it down to my local Apple Authorized service centre expecting it to be sent away but the engineer fixed it in a matter of 30 seconds.
All he did was get a blank piece of white photo-copying paper, turned the mouse upside down and vigorously rubbed the scroll wheel across the paper up and down and from side to side for about 30 seconds.
End result. 1 fixed Apple Mighty Mouse.
So if you have problems with you mighty mouse and it won’t scroll anymore give it a try. Beats sending it away any day.

Mention the words “bean bag” to anyone and visions of tacky student digs and kids rooms spring to mind together with the question why? That is exactly what happened when I told my girlfriend we were getting a bean bag. There was a total look of horror on her face and I tried explaining to her that this isn’t just any old bean bag, it’s a Sumo Lounge beanbag.
A few days later at the end of a telephone conversation she says “Oh, your bean bag has arrived” in a disinterested tone still not impressed.
When I got home that day we unpacked it together and the first thing you notice is the shear size of it. At 5.5ft x 4.5ft it’s big! You soon realize why it’s made that size though.
It wasn’t long before my unimpressed girlfriend had a complete change of heart. She sat down on the beanbag and felt it wrap itself around her supporting her from all angles and looked up and said “Wow! This is really comfy” After a couple more minutes she said “This is more comfortable than our sofas!” Finally she was sold.

(Picture courtesy of SumoLounge and no it’s not my girlfriend!)
We’ve had the bean bag for about a couple of week now and it’s in daily use. It is as versatile as your imagination as with a quick shake and a few prods it transforms itself from a chair, bed, giant pillow or anything else you want it to be.
“It’s so warm to sit on”, “totally relaxing”, “So comfy”, “Love the material”, “I love this beanbag” are just some of things my girlfriend has said to me with a big smile on her face when she has beat me to it.
What do I think? I am totally impressed with the Sumo Lounge Omni beanbag. It’s not often that something lives up to its own hype on a sales page but I would say it surpasses that by a long way. Apart from being so comfortable the quality of the cover and bean bag itself is such that it wouldn’t look out of place in any home. Especially considering that it is available in 10 funky colours.
The only downside to it is the constant fighting over who is going to use it but hey that’s easily solved. At $129 including delivery you can just get another one. It’s a small price to pay for peace and comfort!
Go check them out yourself, Sumo Lounge, you won’t be disappointed.

Want an iPhone but can’t wait for the UK release? Well as with anything if you are prepared to pay a premium to be the first among your friends to get an iPhone then the good news is they are available to buy in the UK today.
The bad news though is currently you won’t be able to use all the features of the phone including making calls as they are all currently locked to the US service provider AT&T. It is possible to use the iPhone as an iPod and with a Wi-Fi connection as hackers have been working hard and have found ways to activate these services without the need of a service contract from AT&T.
I’m sure it is only a matter of time that hackers will have figured out a way to unlock all the features of the iPhone including the all important ability to use any service provider’s sim card and phone facility and reports on the internet suggest this is only a matter of hours away.
So if you can’t wait anymore and are prepared to take a risk of being able to get these fully unlocked or are happy with an expensive iPod with Wi-fi then below is a list of what is available to you today.
