Gamucci Micro Electronic Cigarette - Don’t bother!

    May 26th, 2008 byPhilip Nicosia

I recently got an email from iwantoneofthose.com advertising “The world’s first electronic cigarette”. Being a smoker myself with a girlfriend who asks me everyday to give up I took a look and I have to say I was impressed.

    In their blurb it says

It looks like a cigarette, it tastes like a cigarette, it smokes like a cigarette, but it isn’t a cigarette, it contains no tobacco, and the “smoke” is just vapour.

and they also show a prety impressive promotional video.

The reality of it is quite different though. The micro is a complete waste of time and very disappointing. It produces very little smoke and was a big waste of money. iwantoneofthose.com also have zero after sales service on these as they say ‘Please note that as per our T&Cs, we cannot accept returns on unwanted items once used.’ When I told them I thought it was faulty they said ‘it does not sound like your product is faulty’.

I find it incredible that they show a promotional video of the classic in action with plenty of smoke which the micro simply isn’t up to the job of creating. I queried this with Gamucci themselves asking the following:

    Hi,

I recently purchased a Gamucci Micro Electronic Cigarette from iwantoneofthose.com and am really disappointed with it. The video on their website shows plenty of smoke from the cigarette but in reality this just isn’t the case with the one I have received. The video shown I didn’t realise at the time is not of the Micro Cigarette but that of the Gamucci Classic. Is there a difference between these 2 and the amount of smoke generated?

Either my Gamucci Micro is faulty or it is completely different to the Classic.

    and was told by Gamucci

    Philip,

The Gamucci Micro and Gamucci Classic are simply 2 different products. The Micro produces less vapour but still gives the same feeling as if you’re smoking.

Now I don’t know whether the micro is faulty or not but I believe it is let down on 2 fronts. From my own observations the atomizer isn’t very good and nor are the cartridges.

I bought some Janty Yentl cartridges Marlboro flavour (I smoked Marlboro before) which look pretty identical to the Gumucci Micro cartridges and putting one of these on the Gamucci produced a lot more smoke than the Gamucci cartridges can.

I also bought a super mini e-cig from Ebay which bellows out smoke but I didn’t like the flavour. Putting one of the Janty Yentl cartridges on that produced 2 to 3 times the vapour that the Gamucci Micro could.

I have to say I am still impressed with the concept of e-smoking and the obvious health benefits to over normal tobacco cigarettes which is why I purchased a different one and other cartridges but not so impressed with the Gumucci Micro.

So if you see one of these Gamucci Micro Electronic cigarettes for sale think very carefully before making that purchase and you won’t get the results you see from the classic.

I wouldn’t want anyone to be put off of e-smoking just because of a bad purchase.

    Update:

I was contacted by Gamucci after seeing my post.

I came across your blog and am extremely saddened by the poor customer
experience you have received. It sounds like there may well be a fault with
your Gamucci Micro, as we have sold thousands with very few problems.

I am also amazed someone has responded back to you stating the Gamucci Micro
produces less vapour than the Classic. I would like to offer you a
replacement Gamucci Micro and some cartridge packs free of charge as a
gesture of good will as you have obviously been treated poorly and
mis-informed. (We have grown quite quickly and have recruited a number of
new employees who may well mis-informed you).

It seems that my suspicions of a faulty unit may be true and I will find out soon enough when I receive the replacement. 10/10 for Gumucci for this and 0/10 for IWOOT’s poor customer service who refused to deal with the problem.

I’m looking forward to getting the replacement and if it is as good as the Classic then I will be very pleased. I’ve also got a classic and couldn’t be happier with it apart from I’d prefer something that stood out less when out and about.

Anybody else got experience with a Gumucci Micro?

How to fix Apple Mighty Mouse Scroll Wheel Problems

    October 18th, 2007 byPhilip Nicosia

I got an Apple Bluetooth Mighty Mouse last Christmas and a few weeks ago I started having problems with the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel stopped working properly in that I could scroll down but not up.

Anyway, I eventually took it down to my local Apple Authorized service centre expecting it to be sent away but the engineer fixed it in a matter of 30 seconds.

All he did was get a blank piece of white photo-copying paper, turned the mouse upside down and vigorously rubbed the scroll wheel across the paper up and down and from side to side for about 30 seconds.

End result. 1 fixed Apple Mighty Mouse.

So if you have problems with you mighty mouse and it won’t scroll anymore give it a try. Beats sending it away any day.

The bean bag has evolved (and we love it!)

    October 17th, 2007 byPhilip Nicosia

Mention the words “bean bag” to anyone and visions of tacky student digs and kids rooms spring to mind together with the question why? That is exactly what happened when I told my girlfriend we were getting a bean bag. There was a total look of horror on her face and I tried explaining to her that this isn’t just any old bean bag, it’s a Sumo Lounge beanbag.

A few days later at the end of a telephone conversation she says “Oh, your bean bag has arrived” in a disinterested tone still not impressed.

When I got home that day we unpacked it together and the first thing you notice is the shear size of it. At 5.5ft x 4.5ft it’s big! You soon realize why it’s made that size though.

It wasn’t long before my unimpressed girlfriend had a complete change of heart. She sat down on the beanbag and felt it wrap itself around her supporting her from all angles and looked up and said “Wow! This is really comfy” After a couple more minutes she said “This is more comfortable than our sofas!” Finally she was sold.

    Sumo Lounge Omni
(Picture courtesy of SumoLounge and no it’s not my girlfriend!)

We’ve had the bean bag for about a couple of week now and it’s in daily use. It is as versatile as your imagination as with a quick shake and a few prods it transforms itself from a chair, bed, giant pillow or anything else you want it to be.

“It’s so warm to sit on”, “totally relaxing”, “So comfy”, “Love the material”, “I love this beanbag” are just some of things my girlfriend has said to me with a big smile on her face when she has beat me to it.

What do I think? I am totally impressed with the Sumo Lounge Omni beanbag. It’s not often that something lives up to its own hype on a sales page but I would say it surpasses that by a long way. Apart from being so comfortable the quality of the cover and bean bag itself is such that it wouldn’t look out of place in any home. Especially considering that it is available in 10 funky colours.

The only downside to it is the constant fighting over who is going to use it but hey that’s easily solved. At $129 including delivery you can just get another one. It’s a small price to pay for peace and comfort!

Go check them out yourself, Sumo Lounge, you won’t be disappointed.

iPhone available today in the UK

    July 9th, 2007 byPhilip Nicosia

Want an iPhone but can’t wait for the UK release? Well as with anything if you are prepared to pay a premium to be the first among your friends to get an iPhone then the good news is they are available to buy in the UK today.

The bad news though is currently you won’t be able to use all the features of the phone including making calls as they are all currently locked to the US service provider AT&T. It is possible to use the iPhone as an iPod and with a Wi-Fi connection as hackers have been working hard and have found ways to activate these services without the need of a service contract from AT&T.

I’m sure it is only a matter of time that hackers will have figured out a way to unlock all the features of the iPhone including the all important ability to use any service provider’s sim card and phone facility and reports on the internet suggest this is only a matter of hours away.

So if you can’t wait anymore and are prepared to take a risk of being able to get these fully unlocked or are happy with an expensive iPod with Wi-fi then below is a list of what is available to you today.

    Switched Off The Webcam

    May 29th, 2007 byPhilip Nicosia

I’ve had to switch my webcam off. We’ve had loads of rain over the weekend and the lake is starting to flood. At the rate it is going I imagine my webcam will be under water tomorrow.

Unfortunately because the water is so high I can no longer get to it to take it down so I might need to buy another one if I can find one so it might be a while before it’s working again.

The company I bought it from has stopped trading I think so if anyone knows where you can buy Neu Fusion wireless network cameras then please let me know.
