    Who Is Next Door Nikki?

January 22nd, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

Who is Next Door Nikki? Going through search referrals for this site I noticed I was getting quite a few hits for the search term ‘Next Door Nikki’ and they were being directed to the Big Brother section of the site.

The thing is these searches are coming from anywhere between page 30 and 50 of the results.

The quest for information about ‘Next Door Nikki’ must be great!

    Reporting Spoof Emails to Ebay

January 22nd, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

I get spoof emails nearly every day from people pretending to be eBay and asking you to log into your account so they can get hold of your username and password.

I always forward these to spoof@ebay.co.uk which is their recommendation so that they can check whether the email is from them and presumably take action against the people sending these things out.

Recently I received an email from them which was from a seller using the contact a buyer system to tell me he had posted what I had ordered. I didn’t pay too much attention to it at the time and forwarded it to spoof@ebay.com.

Imagine my surprise though when I got an email back from eBay telling me

“Thank you for sending us the email you received. We can confirm that it did NOT originate from eBay or PayPal. The email you received was a “spoof” email.

Please ignore the email and delete it from your email account immediately. Do not reply to it, and do not click on any links or buttons in the email.

    What is spoof?

Spoof emails are made to appear as though they have originated from a trustworthy source such as eBay, PayPal, banks or other companies. They aim to obtain sensitive data such as passwords or financial information for fraudulent use. Spoofing is also known as “phishing”, and it is an attempt to steal your identity.”

Are eBay unable to detect messages that actually did send or is this an automated response to anything you send to them?

Jade Won’t Face a Crowd at Tonight’s Eviction

January 19th, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

Celebrity Big Brother seem keen to avoid any more controversy probably since the Carphonewarehouse decided to pull it’s sponsorship until things changed.

Well it came as no surprise that Jade and Shilpa were going to be up for eviction and Channel 4 decided to donate all proceeds of the voting to charity so at least they can’t been seen to be profiteering from this awful situation that has got out of hand.

I don’t believe Jade is racist, just completely ignorant. Her behavior has been totally unacceptable.

Jade maintains she is the 25th most influential women in the world. God help us if that is true.

Is this the kind of person you want as a role model? She is fast becoming the joke of society and what impression does she create of the British people to onlookers from overseas?

She is as vile as her mouth and I hope she disappears from pubic grace altogether but unfortunately I don’t think that will be the case.

Anyway, Channel 4 have decided that there will be no crowd tonight (according to Digitital Spy) for her to face at the eviction. What a cop out! Jade won’t even get to know what the public think of her when she leaves.

    Why Are Girls So Bitchy?

January 16th, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

Okay, is this representative of girls that live in the UK or is it just the celebrities in Big Brother?

I can’t believe how bitchy and two faced they are? Danielle especially. She seems to moan about anything if Shilpa is involved in it but won’t say anything to her face.

They are so ungrateful. Especially when it comes to the cooking.

Danielle, Jade and Jo are ganging up on poor old Shilpa. Some say it is bullying, some say it is racist but most agree it is out of jealoulsy.

Channel 4’s Big Brain has remarked that there are 4 types of bitching that have all been seen in the house.

Base Bitching — This takes the form of insults that are exaggerated and little more than childish name-calling

Bond Bitching — This is where you see 2 housemates bitching about a 3rd, sitting together and whispering. This is bond-bitching with two purposes firstly to cement a relationship with one another by confiding and the other is conspiratational

Assassination Bitching — This is like applying a shotgun to victim’s head and pulling the trigger. It challenges the victim’s character and creates a new view of them in both the public and the housemate’s eyes.

Scorched Earth Bitching — This is really the most strategic form of bitching presenting the bitch in a good light while destroying other relationships in one fell swoop. For example kindly telling someone what others have said about them, then waiting for the bomb to explode. The ripple effect of these strategic bitch-fests have the most long term damage.

    That’s a lot of bitching!

Quite how poor old Shilpa is managing to cope with it all is beyond me. It says a lot about her strength of character and the gulf between her and the other girls.

Google Docs Being Used to Spam Google’s index

January 15th, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

I came across something really strange today. Doing a search on Google.com for Free Ringtones I saw a page with a url that started docs.google.com/, a page held on Google’s servers.

This result has appeared from nowhere to hold 4th place probably based on the fact that Google believes that pages from Google are to be trusted and will always score well in its own results.

Google Docs and spreadsheets is a beta program allowing people to create and share their work online. I doubt they gave much thought to this being abused and used to spam their own search engine.

The text on the page reads:

“Limited offer! Free Ringtones! Get free ringtones for any phone! It Is All Here! Huge range of Free Ringtones! The largest Selection of Free Ringtones! Thousands of Free Ringtones! Download Free Ringtones right now! The latest ringtones!

    >>>Free Ringtones — click here <<< ”

When you click on the link it takes you via a redirected home.aol.com page to what looks like a set of 20 different affiliate links.

This page even looks like a set of Google results in that the fonts and colours are very similar to what you would expect to see on Google itself. The big giveaway though is apart from there not being a Google logo, the sponsored links leading to searches for “Penis Enlargement Pills, Buy Viagra, etc.

How long before we see docs.google.com returning results for those search terms as well?
