    My Geochron Kilburg Clock

August 10th, 2006 by Philip Nicosia

Not so much a gadget but more a work of art and a great piece of engineering.

The Geochron Kilburg clock allows you to see what time it is anywhere in the world at a glance.

    Geochron Kilburg Clock

The clock features a moving map which shows areas of day and night making a complete cycle every 24 hours and gradually changes shape with the seasons.

I managed to pick this one up on Ebay at a considerable saving on the retail price (for a clock they are expensive) and it has been worth every penny. It now hangs on the wall above my desk so if ever I need to know if someone is likely to be awake across the world I can just glance up and see instantly what time it is.

It’s great for planning holidays as well locating where a country is without having to get the atlas out.

    Google not accepting reinclusion requests?

August 9th, 2006 by Philip Nicosia

Maybe just a glitch or possibly intentional due to demand they can’t cope with but today I noticed you can’t file a reinclusion request to Google. If you look at Google’s webmaster support page it says”

If your site has violated our webmaster guidelines, and you’ve made changes to it so that it meets our guidelines, you can request reinclusion and we’ll evaluate your site.To request reinclusion, log in to Google Sitemaps, choose the “Request reinclusion” link, and follow the steps outlined there.”

Now here is where the problem is. I can’t find a “request reinclusion” link. Does that mean that I don’t need to or is it something that has been missed. It used to be there as I have seen it in the past but this morning when I looked it’s gone.

It’s also interesting to see that you now need to have a Google webmasters account in order to submit a reinclusion request. Is this another way of pushing webmasters to use sitemaps?

Of course you don’t need to submit sitemaps when you do have a Google Sitemaps account and there are other benefits too like their robots.txt checker, reporting of errors on your site, choosing your preferred domain with or without www, etc so it is still worthwhile.

Its just a shame you can’t submit a reinclusion request to Google at the moment.

Nikki is back in the house next door!

August 9th, 2006 by Philip Nicosia

Earlier Nikki together with Grace, Lea and Mikey entered the house next door watched by the confused house mates live on the screen in the living room.

No mention was made to the housemates that they would have to choose one of the next door neighbours to join them and that one of them could ultimately win the £100,000 prize.

There has been widespread complaints from the audience over the fact that one of the housemates next door could win the prize and Ofcom have received over 1000 complaints from unhappy people who feel cheated to have paid to have someone evicted only for them to return.

It will be interesting to see how all this pans out and who gets chosen to go back into the Big Brother house later during the week.

Times Running Out - Get Your Vote in Now

August 8th, 2006 by Philip Nicosia

Times Running Out - Get Your Vote in Now

Times running out to get your vote in for who you want to see back in the Big Brother house. 4 of the previously evicted housemates will be going back to the house next door where later the Housemates in the main house will choose from these 4, 1 housemate to join them in the main house.

Pete’s pining for Nikki so if she’s chosen to go in the house next door then there’s a good chance that will be his choice to join them.

The ex-housemate who does end up in the main house will be eligible to win the £100,000 prize and it will be interesting to see if the housemates in the main house are told this before they make their choice for who’s going to join them.

This could be where the game play would begin. Let’s face it, if you were in the main house would you choose someone you thought the public would vote to win or choose a safe bet who you thought couldn’t win. I know what I would do.

The housemates you can nominate to go back in are:

    Grace
    Jayne
    Lea
    Lisa
    Michael
    Mikey
    Nikki
    Sam
    Spiral
    Susie

Sezer and Bonnie aren’t being allowed to go back in.

So if you want your favourite ex-housemate to go back in better get your vote in now. I’m routing for Nikki although ultimately I hope Pete wins.

Getting to Number 1 in Google

August 8th, 2006 by Philip Nicosia

Well I’ve finally done what I have set out to achieve. Eighteen days and 37 posts after setting myself a target of getting in the top 10 results for my name “Philip Nicosia” I have finally made the top spot in Google with this site www.philipnicosia.com.

I’m also number 1 in MSN.com for the same search term but Yahoo! is a different story altogether.

I briefly made an appearance at No. 3 in Yahoo! but have since been relegated to the Number 23 slot. What’s going on there?

The most surprising thing I see in Yahoo! is the number 1 result “Compare prices for Philip Nicosia - DVD-Video. Read dvd-video reviews and compare prices at Yahoo! Shopping.” leading to a virtually blank page with my name on it and a blank section titled “Popular Films by Philip Nicosia”.

Maybe there is a film maker named Philip Nicosia that I’ve never heard of? It’s not me unless of course you include home movies such as this one.

It will be interesting to see if my results improve in Yahoo! soon.
