    Google must like me!

September 24th, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

I noticed a referral from Google for the search term philip nicosa (incorrect spelling of my name) but what surprised me the most was that on the top of the Google page it said:

    Did you mean philip nicosia

Scary that Google should know me so well or maybe it’s just they like me?

Sky HD will work on a normal TV

September 19th, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

Just in case anyone else want’s this confirmed, SKY HD will work on a normal TV (non HD). The SKY HD box comes with a scart socket that you can connect to your TV.

You don’t even need to subscribe to HD channels. When I got mine I simply rang up Sky and spoke to their HD department to activate my card in the new box and told them I didn’t want to pay the extra £10 a month for HD channels as I couldn’t watch them anyway and it wasn’t a problem for them.

The only downside is the SKY Anytime programes that are sent to the box are often in HD format and I can’t watch them. It’s no big problem really as there isn’t anything there that you couldn’t record with SKY+ anyway.

    iPhone gets UK launch date

September 18th, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

Still waiting to get an iPhone. Well the UK iPhone launch date has been set at November 9th so less than 7 weeks to go. Exclusively on the O2 network with an 18 month contract.

You could always buy one at the Apple store for £269 and unlock it to use on a different network but Apple may tighten that up with the next software upgrade though.

    Could iPhoneSimFree.com be a scam?

September 3rd, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

News of iPhoneSimFree.com releasing their unlocking software tomorrow (Tuesday 4th September) is plastered all over the internet. They have decided they want to wholesale the licences and the minimum order is for 50 and you have to pay by Bank wire transfer.

Now this could all be legit but would you be comfortable sending a minimum of $1800 to an anonymous group in the hope that you get something in return.

Personally I would hold back until someone else has got the software from them to be sure.

Is the iPhone the perfect mobile phone?

September 3rd, 2007 by Philip Nicosia

I bought an iPhone off Ebay shortly after they were released which to anyone who knows me will not come as a surprise. For a while all I could do is use the iPod features, wi-fi and email which I expected so I was fine with that.

I took the iPhone on holiday with me and watched movies I’d be meaning to catch up on whilst laying on the beach and it was great.

I finally managed to get it unlocked a few weeks ago with the aid of a Bladox Turbo sim and have happily been using it on T-Mobile in the UK since. Everything on the phone works except for the Youtube videos but that isn’t a big deal.

Is the iPhone any good? It certainly is! It’s almost as if you have a laptop in your pocket being able to pick up emails or surf the web wherever you are thanks to T-Mobiles unlimited data access for £1 a day.

The sound quality of the calls is excellent and navigating your way through the menus is a breeze.

    Is it perfect? No.

One thing that I miss the most and have taken for granted for so long is Group SMS text messages. There’s also no option for SMS receipts which is a pain if you need to know if someone has got what you sent.

The good thing though is I’m sure in time all the little features that Apple have missed will come along in a software upgrade so while it’s not perfect now it could be sometime soon.
